Church meals help others on holiday

A handful of churches and dozens of volunteers throughout Lake County will serve hundreds of free Thanksgiving meals to the needy and lonely.

For the churches, it's an annual labor of love requiring weeks of preparation. Come holiday meal day, there will be plenty of perspiration ? and satisfaction for helping make the holiday special for so many.

Meanwhile, a couple of churches are helping struggling families by giving them a turkey and the trimmings so they can prepare a holiday meal at home.

Members of St. Mathias Episcopal Church on West Montrose Street in Clermont prepared 60 baskets for area residents to pick up this week.

Also in Clermont, ASHER'S Church and the Cathedral of Power International Church partnered for the second year in a row and will give away roughly 400 turkeys to the area's needy on Monday including single mothers.

A free Thanksgiving dinner will be served a couple days early, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday at Cathedral of Power, 202 Hatteras Ave. Details: 352-321-2930.
