Confused - Adoption.com Forums

In my area, when they are getting ready to file TPR, they send a letter out to all known family members, basically stating that if you or anyone you know want to come forward for this child, now is your last chance. The department has to legally homestudy everyone that comes forward.

In our case, my DD's GGMa came forward, when the letter was sent out. She had never expressed interest in fostering DD. When the adoption worker told me, I freaked out. I kept telling the AW, "but mom lives with her!" AW said she knew, from the ongoing worker, that mom lived there, but GGMa was claiming at this point that mom didn't live there. I begged the worker to let me know how the homestudy went, as soon as she got out of the house, because I just couldn't take the stress! She did call me right afterward. She said there was no way DD was leaving me. AW said off the top of her head, there were at least 10 red flags, as to why DD should not be placed with GGMa. The biggest two were that mom DID live there, and when the homestudy visit was going downhill, GGMa admitted that she was only coming forward, so she could hand DD over to mom "when she got better".

I know there are people here, who lost adoptive placements to family, but you never know which way it is going to go, until all the homestudies are done. I hope they get it done quickly, so you don't have to spend too much time worrying about it.
