FIELD HOCKEY CAMP

Fall Field Hockey

The Greenwich Department of Parks and Recreation has begun registration for its Fall Field Hockey Program. The program is open to those in third grade (must turn 8 by 12/31/11) through eighth. Instruction will take place at Greenwich High School Turf Field on Saturday afternoons. Some traveling is required and games may be played on Saturday mornings and afternoons. Registration is limited to 50 players per age group. Grades 3rd 4th meet from 2pm ? 3:30pm and grades 5 ? 8 meet from 3:30pm ? 5 pm. The program starts Saturday, September 10 and runs through November 5. It does not meet on Saturday, October 8 Yom Kippur. Emily Townsend Prince will be co directing the program with Kate Defeo. GREENWICH TENNIS

The Greenwich Department of Parks and Recreation announces that all Town of Greenwich Tennis courts are open for play. Greenwich residents must have a valid tennis card to play on any of the 36 Town tennis courts. To receive tennis card application please call the Department of Parks and Recreation at 203-622-7817. The cost for a tennis card is $30.00 for the season; guest cards are also available for $50.00. Children 5 to 15 years old may use their Park Pass; seniors may use their Senior Park Pass. Fall Youth Soccer

The Greenwich Dept of Parks and Recreationhas begun registration for its Town sponsored Fall Soccer program. The program is open to boys and girls ages 3 through 11 years old and proof of age will be required for anyone new to the program. The sessions for ages 3 through 9 take place at the Upper and Lower Havemeyer fields behind Town Hall while ages 9 through 11 meet at Loughlin Avenue Park off Strickland Road in Cos Cob. Children must be 3 by August 1, 2011 in order to participate.The program will start Saturday, September 10 and will end November 5 with a rain date of Saturday, November 12. It does not meet on October 8. Brad Wallace and staff will oversee the program at the Havemeyer Fields while Soccer with Aldwin staff will oversee Loughlin Avenue. This year an all girls program will be held at Loughlin Avenue for ages 9 -11. An informal coach?s clinic for new coaches and those coaching the 34 year olds is scheduled for Wednesday, September 7 at 6 p.m. in the Community Room located on the ground floor of the Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center on 449 Pemberwick Road. Coaching shirts and whistles will be handed out that time. Anyone wishing to volunteer will need to complete a background check if they have not already done so. All players must wear shin guards and provide their own soccer ball ? size 3 for anyone 4 years old or younger and size 4 for everyone else. As in the past there will be an on site training coach at Havemeyer to go over drills and work with the coaches prior to the start of their session. Lordship 5K Run

The 18th Annual running of the Lordship 5K Race in Stratford will be held on Saturday, September 10. The USATF certified course is flat and fast with beautiful views of Long Island Sound. The Race previously voted ?Favorite Small Race? in Connecticut provides for both youngsters, teams and traditional categories and are greeted at the end of the run by a foot fest supplied by the Sponsor, Lordship Community Church. Teams from the local running clubs, high school track teams and other groups look forward to this early start to the Fall racing season. Each registered runner receives the traditional Lordship Run-About tee shirt and trophies are awarded in all classes and categories. WOMEN?S GOLF MENTORING

The Fairfield County Chapter of EWGA (Executive Women?s Golf Association) is offering a Mentoring Program for women who want to learn the rules, golf etiquette, and different styles of play.
