This is the year of Redemption!? My focus on CallMOM is Redeeming Relationships. Christ as Redeemer means that even though someone is different than me, or rubs my flesh the wrong way, I want God?s love to draw them ? His love compelling, not my weaknesses repelling. ??I hope to talk openly about all different types of relationships and ask the Lord to do a mighty work in every one.? In the spirit of Redeeming Relationships, I thought you might like a little inside baseball on what it means to be my friend.? ?Yes, this is meant to be light-hearted today, but if we truly want Christ to redeem our broken relationships, the heavy stuff will soon come.?

IF YOU WANT TO BE MY FRIEND

Know that I will disappoint you.

I don?t see every text message ? sometimes my kids take my phone and read it before I see it and your message never makes it to me

I have 10,000 emails in my inbox.? I scan daily for you, to see if you tried to ask me something or pass on a good deal, but if I don?t hit ?reply? it doesn?t mean I don?t love you.? I may have seen it on my phone and haven?t yet figured out how to forward or reply from the Android.? I still love you and want you to email.

Please don?t assume I?m too busy, or too broke to come to your outing.? God always provides and we have faith daily for special treats.? If you have a special treat you want me to share, if God wants me there, He provides the funds.

We know in our family that perfectionism is an idol, and we?re not going to attain it.? Our parenting style can be summed up in two words ?Me Last?.? If I hand your child a broom, a lawn mower, or a bottle of Windex? and ask them to help us clean, it?s not so I have free help (though that is a perk to being your friend J ) , I have kingdom work on the brain as they are cleaning and folding our laundry.? I promise they will play way more than they fold clothes.

We have one dog, we don?t want any more pets.? At least not now.? If your cat has kittens and your pup has puppies, I?m happy to advertise for you and help you find them a home?just not mine.? I still love you.

Christmas season is a big deal for us.? You probably will see us out more in December that the entire year combined.? We love everything about the holidays, and we would love you to join us.? Don?t wait for me to think about asking you, just call.

If you send your kids here to play and they leave shoes, jackets, or an article of clothing: I will have no idea which ones are yours or not and I cannot promise you that we will find it.? There is a clothing black hole somewhere in our house.? I?m not trying to take your things, I?m just overwhelmed.? You are free to take anything out of my house you want to compensate.

My home phone is a necessary evil.?? I would cancel it I could, but I can?t.? We never answer it, unless a kid happens to pass by.? It is old, I won?t replace it.? There are 160 voicemails on the phone starting from 10 months ago and now when you call and try to leave a message it says, ?The mailbox is full?.? I just can?t get to this, so the best way to reach me is email or texting my cell, or just knocking on my front door. ?If you left me a message in 2012 on my home phone, I promise you I never heard it.? I am not ignoring you, I still love you.

Please do not be offended if I don?t respond to you.? I think about you often, pray for you throughout the week as God places you on my heart.

I love you

If you send your kids over to my home, they will get love and be watched carefully, however, I have teens and I can?t guarantee that there won?t be a stupid youtube video on someone?s computer screen or a tv show with a rating you disapprove of.? We do have filters on our computers.

I?m one mom, and have been outnumbered 7 times over.? I depend on the Holy Spirit to watch my kids and to convict them of sin when my eyes do not catch something.? I will love your kids the same.

Because so many children come in and out of my home, I sometimes forget someone is not my child and I may lecture your child or start into one of my ?coaching? sessions at any given moment.

I hate chatty phone conversations, but I love you.? If you need me, please call me and tell me why you need me.? I am a horrible mind reader and do not know how to ?read between the lines?. Just tell me, I will listen, and love you, and pray with you right there over the phone.

Please don?t call me if you are just bored and want to chit-chat. I?m not that kind of friend.

If your family invites my family over for dinner, I understand that the typical Southern courtesy is to reciprocate the offer.? I REALLY want to do this.? I love the IDEA of having people over. I would like to do it frequently.? I?m often planning the meal I want to serve you, thinking of seating arrangements for all your kids, etc.? But somehow, my family has a calendar that I don?t always have control over and I can?t have your family over like I want. Be patient with me, I?m thinking about you.

If you invite my family over several times and we decline, it?s not that I don?t love you.? There are always different needs that arise in our home and they change daily.? I have to gauge the temperature of the family, and the husband before I make commitments.

If I RSVP to attend your shower, birthday party, or special event, and I do not attend barring family emergencies or unexpected hindrances?

I ask you for grace.

Because of the nature of our family dynamics, when you send me the invitation two weeks out, we all fully intend to come.? Fatigue and work situations cannot always be forecasted and sometimes we have to back out of an RSVP.? I think this is sinful, I know how hard you worked to prepare for us.? I?m torn between propriety, and loving my husband and honoring him.? I will make it up to you one day, I just don?t know how.? Please give me grace. I?m praying for your event if we don?t show up.

Please don?t feel sorry for me.? That really bugs me. I?m so blessed and thankful I often cry for no reason.? My family is healthy and precious, my parents are alive and spunky, and I love the Lord.? He is my sufficiency.? I prefer prayer over pity.

I WANT you to invite me to your PARTIES, Mary Kay, Young Living, Beauty Control, Electricity, ALL of IT!? I love supporting home based businesses, the best way I support you is through promotion.? I am 98% sure I won?t buy anything, even if I really love it.? If you just need a warm body in the room and an enthusiastic promoter, I?m your gal.? If you are trying to meet a quota, my feelings won?t be hurt if you don?t invite me.

Homeschooling or PACES is not a prerequisite for being my friend. I homeschool my children, it works for us, we have done it for 17 years and have graduated two who are in college with six more coming behind them.? I?m happy to talk to you about homeschooling or PACES, but I?m not interested in changing what we?re doing.? If talking about school makes you feel uncomfortable, I?m not judging you, I love you.

You are FREE.? Let?s be friends and talk about educating our kids however God leads us to do it.? I know many successful families who do not homeschool their kids. I still want to be your friend.

We are a reformed Baptist family, and conservative republicans.? We talk openly about politics and religion in our home.? Be forewarned.

I love to talk face to face, if you are busy like me, let?s go a walk together or have coffee or a margarita. I?m not too busy for you.

Please don?t think I?m too busy for friendship.? I may be too busy to check voicemail or read all my emails, but that doesn?t mean I?m too busy for friends.?? I need you and I love you.

My kids all do theater, have produce stands, teach piano, tutor, and babysit.? I do not expect you to attend their productions or support their businesses.? You are free to do as the Lord leads you.? They love it when you do support them, but I?m not thinking about it at all.

My husband supports my friendships, but he also guards me from toxic people and spending too much time away from family. He is wise and protective, but he loves my friends and he loves you.

I often have a nursing child, if you have a teenage boy that comes to my home, it is my intention to be discreet and cover up.? ??Most of the time, my boys will throw a blanket on me and keep me alert, but just be warned.

Finally, if you have been my friend since childhood, high school or college days, please know that I still love you deeply.? Your influence in my life is a seal on my soul.? My heart is grateful to know you and I pray often for you and your family as God brings you to mind.? I wish that I could re-connect with you, believing God that one day that will happen.

Danny Ainge: No big deal imminent (and other NBA trade rumor season thoughts)

For the moment, Danny Ainge says that he's "content" with his roster and no deal is "imminent" but...

The trade deadline is Feb. 21 and Ainge has been known to shake up his roster with stunning moves, such as the acquisition of Green and Nenad Krstic for Kendrick Perkins and Nate Robinson in February 2011. Ainge said no such impact deal is imminent.

"I think over the next five weeks a lot will be told," he said. "I feel like we don?t have any glaring needs when we?re playing the way we?re playing. Everyone?s playing their role; whether they?re playing well all the time is not as much of a point if they are accepting a role and giving an honest day?s worth of work."

Reading quotes and listening to Danny Ainge talk is always amusing to me. He strikes me as a guy who's nature is to be an honest guy who will "give it to you straight." Yet his job requires him to withhold information, skirt around the truth, and sometimes outright lie. Thus is the nature of NBA trade rumor season. Everyone has an agenda and nobody is going to give you the full story until well after the fact.

Still, there's always nuggets of information that you can gather from interviews like this and so as a rumor monger I enjoy looking for hints and specks of gold in the sifter.

I think his "next five weeks" comment is a clear signal that they are (as expected) always looking and (as you'd imagine) they would like more than 5 games of evidence before they declare that this team is a Championship contender.

He says there are no "glaring needs" but qualifies it with "when we are playing the way we're playing." Well, when you win 5 in a row, there are no glaring needs, no. Does that mean there won't be a glaring need in the near future? Or that there isn't one just below the surface that will only take a low tide to expose?

Later in the article he talks about not needing anyone to come in and sit at the end of the bench to add more depth. That sounds like someone who's justifying the dropping of two players - one of whom was a second round draft pick - to save some money and give the team roster flexibility for a large trade if need be. It also sounds like they won't be calling up Kenyon Martin any time soon either.

By the way, I suppose if you are really willing to look cloak-n-dagger, I will point out that this interview was conducted by Gary Washburn who also turned in a separate article where he says that the team needs a bench scorer.

Danny Ainge needs to make a few moves for the team to be a legitimate contender - Celtics - Boston.com

What the Celtics need is a younger, more reliable scorer off the bench that can allow Pierce and Garnett to rest and, as they did Friday, power the club in the fourth quarter. That was supposed to be Lee and Terry, but they have proven to be streaky scorers who are more of a supplement.

Just a writer's opinion or perhaps something he picked up off the record and wanted to put into a column to sound smart? Take it from someone that does a similar (though very different) job. Chances are very good that his 2nd column was just a thought piece, but don't bet against the latter either. Just food for thought.

These are all just data points in the larger picture. With our eyes we can see that the Celtics could use an upgrade in the frontcourt depth. If Jason Terry and someone else (Lee, Green, Sullinger) could give us more consistent production off the bench, we'd probably be just fine. If they are still up and down, then maybe we do need another bench scorer - regardless of position. We've kind of needed a backup point guard for the last who-knows-how-many years. Those are just the fine-tuning thoughts too.

There's always a chance that Danny Ainge could indeed pull of a blockbuster trade. I would be disappointed but not overly surprised if he dealt Paul Piecre or Rajon Rondo. I kind of hope that Ainge can pull off one of those lopsided "are you kidding me?" trades that seem to only work in fan-boy trade machine ideas but somehow occur from time to time in the real NBA. Like Courtney Lee, Brandon Bass, and filler for Josh Smith or something like that. But I'm not holding my breath either (especially with Atlanta's current record and place in the standings).

Usually "fair" trades are hated by both sides because value was given up by each team. And a "fair" trade doesn't always work out for both teams due to fit and circumstance (see the Jeff Green for Kendrick Perkins trade).

So what does any of this really mean? Likely little and less, but it is always fun to read the tea leaves and pretend to predict the future. So fire up the trade machine and propose some trades and pick apart other people's trade ideas. Because that's what we do here around this time of year.

Court denies Berlusconi bid to halt sex trial

MILAN (AP) ? A Milan court has rejected a bid by former Premier Silvio Berlusconi to halt his pay-for-sex trial because of Italy's general election campaign.

The judges deliberated for four hours before delivering their decision on Monday. They also decided that they didn't need to hear testimony from the Moroccan woman at the center of the case, Karima el-Mahroug.

El-Mahroug had appeared in court on Monday after having failed to show on two previous dates.

Berlusconi is accused of paying for sex with el-Mahroug, better known as Ruby, when she was 17, and then trying to cover it up. Both deny sexual contact.

Saban closes door on NFL (again)

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC)- Nick Saban is tired of "closing the door" on questions about a return to the NFL.

"The hinges are wore out," Saban said during a Thursday phone interview on ESPN's Mike and Mike in the Morning. The Alabama coach says he has answered the NFL question over and over again since Monday's win over Notre Dame, and nobody seems to believe him when he says he values college coaching more than his NFL head coaching experience.

Saban had an unsuccessful run with the Miami Dolphins after winning his first national championship at LSU.

"I think that if some of the things that we would have done in Miami we'd have got done -- mostly the Drew Brees thing -- things might have been different. But, I felt like we needed a quarterback, couldn't get one, weren't going to win if we didn't have one. So I had an opportunity to go to someplace [Alabama] where we had a better chance to win."

Brees, of course, ended up in New Orleans, where he led the Saints to a Super Bowl win and is likely headed to the NFL Hall of Fame.

Meanwhile, life is good for content college coach Saban: three national championships in four years at Alabama and predictions of more to come. Beyond the winning, Saban says the college job is allowing him to shape the personal lives of young men.

"In the NFL it's not really that way. Everything is about people having success in their career as football players, so they can make more money, win more games; it's a business. It's a little bit different from that standpoint. It just depends on what you (as a coach) enjoy the most."
