Long weekend to-do (coffee-free edition). | Door Sixteen

I?m puttering around the Brooklyn apartment this 3-day weekend, still getting over the remains of a head cold and avoiding the flash thunderstorms we?ve been having around here lately. I?m determined to use the time to get this place looking better. I made a to-do list I think is pretty realistic.

? Clean/vacuum/etc.
? Order new sconce for bathroom
? Mount hanging rail in kitchen Hmmm, I actually think we don?t need it?
? HANG STUFF ON THE WALLS
? Install closet shelving
? Organize closets
? Pack up winter clothes
? Figure out how to hide the electrical panel (I need to think about it more)
? Plan food for the week (I?ll do that tomorrow)
? DON?T DRINK COFFEE

Yeah. So. That last thing. Coffee. Not drinking it. I know, I know. I have a reputation as being a bit of a coffee fiend, and it?s no joke. I?m not one of those people who drinks cup after cup, but I definitely have at least one giant cup of the stuff a day?and more often than not, two giant cups. Or maybe three. I don?t really need it to get going in the morning, but I cannot make it past noon without coffee if I want to avoid developing a massive, throbbing headache that never fails to make me think I?m dying. Then I have a coffee, and everything is better.

Next week is going to be a bit of a ?detox? test for me, though. I?m doing a three-day BluePrint Cleanse and eating raw food for three days on either side, and I want to cut out caffeine completely for a full week. It?s a bit of a reset, really?I need to get myself back on track with eating well. I don?t really believe in temporary ?cleansing,? but mentally I do think that having a regimented diet for a set period of time is a very good thing for me. I?ve been eating way too much packaged, processed food lately (seitan, frozen veggie burgers, Spicy Sweet Chili Doritos?you get the picture), and I just don?t feel good.

I?ll let you know how THAT goes, and I?ll take photos of the apartment as it comes together, too. I?m excited about both things!

Egypt to pick Islamist or military man as president

CAIRO | Fri May 25, 2012 9:06pm EDT

CAIRO (Reuters) - The Muslim Brotherhood is reaching out to rivals including politicians knocked out of the presidential race in an attempt to rally support around its own candidate who faces a runoff against Hosni Mubarak's last prime minister, Ahmed Shafiq.

Warning of "determined efforts to recreate the old regime," the Brotherhood said parties that supported the uprising that swept Mubarak from power must unite "so that the revolution is not stolen from us."

The Brotherhood's presidential candidate, Mohamed Mursi, beat the rest of the field in the first round of the election, with Shafiq a close second, according to an unofficial Brotherhood tally of the vote count. Official results are due out on Tuesday.

The outcome sets up a June 16-17 ballot box struggle between a former air force commander who has described Mubarak as a role model and an Islamist group the deposed leader dealt with mostly as an enemy of the state.

In an apparent overture to the group he is set to face in the runoff, Shafiq told Egyptian television on Friday he saw no problem with the idea of a Muslim Brotherhood-led government if he were elected president.

The runoff will be a historic moment for Egypt and the region, giving voters the choice between a continuation of rule by men from a military background and a government led by a long-oppressed Islamist group with broad regional influence.

It is a choice that many Egyptians are not relishing, either out of fear that a Shafiq victory would mark a blow to hoped-for reform or out of worry a Brotherhood victory would steer the country towards fundamentalist rule.

The army council that has been governing since Mubarak stepped down is due to hand power to the president on July 1 - officially the last stage in a messy and sometimes bloody transition to civilian rule overseen by the generals.

Although the Brotherhood and Shafiq came out on top in the first round, held on Wednesday and Thursday, the unofficial results showed the race to have been very tight, with fewer than 8 percentage points separating the top four candidates.

The 25 percent won by Mursi was a less spectacular outcome for the Brotherhood than the result of the parliamentary elections in which the group won close to half the seats, hinting at a decline in its popularity in the past six months.

The presidential election result also indicated a strong showing by reform-minded independents who between them won more votes than either Shafik or Mursi, underlining the growth of a new centre in Egypt's fast-evolving political landscape.

"The Brotherhood will have to reach out in a grand and dramatic way to the centre and the other political parties if they have any hope of winning their support and any hope of winning the presidency," said Elijah Zarwan of the European Council on Foreign Relations think tank.

'WE WILL SUCCEED'

The third-and fourth-place contenders - leftist Hamdeen Sabahi and independent Islamist Abdel Moneim Abol Fotouh - were among the politicians the Brotherhood would invite to a preliminary meeting on Saturday, a Brotherhood official said.

The initiative marked a new attempt by the Brotherhood to reach out to other forces that have accused it of seeking to dominate public life since Mubarak was toppled - a charge the group fiercely denies.

There was no immediate word on whether either would attend the meeting at which a Brotherhood party official, Yasser Ali, said the question of the vice presidency and a new coalition government would be discussed.

"We know that we will succeed in uniting behind the initiative to save the nation and to complete the revolution," Essam el-Erian, the deputy leader of the Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party, said during a news conference.

Although a leading voice for years in the Egyptian reform movement, the Brotherhood has appeared increasingly isolated from other parties since the uprising, first facing accusations it was slow to join the revolt and then that it acquiesced in the military rule that followed.

Trust in the Brotherhood was further undermined when the group decided at the 11th hour to join the presidential race, a decision that marked a retreat from its previous pledge not to run. The group, founded in 1928, says it is the target of a vicious smear campaign orchestrated by its opponents.

Losing Islamist candidate Abol Fotouh, who won about 17.6 percent of the vote by the Brotherhood's count, said in a statement he would now back the Islamist group with which he parted ways last year to pursue his presidential bid.

Abol Fotouh did not name the Brotherhood, but said he and his supporters would "rise above our political and party differences" and would "stand in a united front against the symbols of corruption and oppression," referring to Shafiq.

Shafiq has won support among Egyptians who see him as the kind of strong man the country needs to put an end to 15 months of political instability and other problems including a crime wave.

His constituency also includes Christians, who form about a tenth of Egypt's 82 million people. They complained of discrimination in Mubarak's day, but are likely to vote for Shafiq in preference to an Islamist.

Mohamed Habib, a former deputy leader of the Brotherhood who left the group last year in protest at its post-uprising policies, said the group should offer vice presidential positions to at least two people from outside the group.

He suggested one could be a Christian - an idea to which Mursi himself has said he is not opposed.

Habib voted for Abol Fotouh in the first round, but said he would now vote for Mursi. "There is no other option. You are picking between two options. You pick the best of the worst, as they say."

RINEHART RAP: PM vows foreign workers will not take jobs from Aussies

PM Julia Gillard said?"jobs board'' would be created for Australians in the resources sector.?Picture: Gary Ramage Source: The Daily Telegraph

PRIME Minister Julia Gillard vowed that no foreign worker would take a job that an Australian could do, as she battled to contain the fallout from a government decision to approve the hire of 1715 migrant labourers on a major mining project..

Ms Gillard has been lashed by union leaders and members of her own party over yesterday?s announcement by the federal government that mining magnate Gina Rinehart would be permitted to hire up to 20 per cent of the construction workforce on her Roy Hill iron ore project from overseas.

Labor Senator Doug Cameron warned earlier today at the Prime Minister faced tough questions at a caucus meeting on Tuesday over the issue, which erupted in the midst of a government campaign against resources billionaires as it attempts to sell its ?battlers? budget?.

Speaking today in Melbourne, Ms Gillard attempted to douse the flames, saying that a "jobs board'' would be created that would give Australian workers information about what jobs were available in the resources sector.

"Yesterday I decided we would add to what we're doing to make sure that Aussies are getting the jobs,'' Ms Gillard said. "Companies won't be able to bring in foreign workers if there is an Australian ready, able and willing to do the work on the jobs board.''

Ms Gillard told union leaders in Canberra yesterday that she was ?furious? that the decision on the Roy Hill workers by Immigration Minister Chris Bowen had not been taken to cabinet, but that by the time she learned of the approval on Wednesday, Ms Rinehart?s Hancock Prospecting had already been informed of the decision and it could not be reversed.

A Labor source yesterday said Ms Gillard, whose leadership is under renewed threat, admitted at a meeting of angry union leaders and manufacturing sector representatives she only learned on Wednesday of her Immigration Minister Chris Bowen's decision to grant the approval.

Senior left-wing MP Doug Cameron said he was "gobsmacked" and said MPs had not been consulted by the PM's office or Mr Bowen.

"I am shocked that, while workers are being marched off the job at Kurri Kurri and Tullamarine ... Chinese workers are going to be marching on to the job in the Pilbara," he told The Daily Telegraph.

"There must be a proper process of consultation with the caucus and the ACTU.

I thought we were being pulled into a more consultative position, clearly not."

Paul Howes, AWU national secretary, demanded to know what "political genius" had granted the $9.5 billion Roy Hill iron ore mine temporary foreign labour in a week when 800 workers at Qantas and at the Hydro aluminium smelter had lost their jobs and said the decision was "sheer lunacy".

Mr Bowen said the project might stall without foreign labour. Managers of the Pilbara project told the government there was a lack of local workers in the region and it would need foreign labour to complete construction.

Mr Howes said the policy made a mockery of his AWU ally Treasurer Wayne Swan's campaign of bashing mining magnates Clive Palmer, Ms Rinehart and Andrew Forrest and spreading the benefits of the boom.

After a budget framed as sharing mining wealth with all Australians, Mr Howes said: "After months of the government making it clear Gina Rinehart is our enemy, where is the consistency?, what are we doing? It doesn't make sense."

The decision to grant the Roy Hill project an enterprise migration agreement to allow it to employ up to 1715 foreign workers during construction was announced the same day Mr Howes and other union leaders met with Ms Gillard for a manufacturing round table.

"I expressed to the Prime Minister our amazement at this decision," he said.

"I still can't get my head around what genius thought this was a good idea. It is sheer lunacy in a week where so many jobs have been cut."

The round table is trying to address the manufacturing crisis in which 130,000 people have lost their jobs since 2008.

The foreign workers are expected to come from the UK, Europe, India, China, South Korea and the Philippines. At least 6758 Australians will be employed on construction, including 2000 trainees.

"The temporary overseas workers will make up less than 20 per cent of the construction workforce, and the sooner construction is finished the sooner 2000 permanent jobs will be created for Australians," a Roy Hill spokesman said.

Mr Bowen defended the decision: "Governments make decisions based on the evidence before them."

Children who are overweight or obese ? particularly older, non-Hispanic white girls ? are more likely to have a neurological disorder known as idiopathic intracranial hypertension, a rare condition that can result in blindness, according to a new Kaiser Permanente study published in The Journal of Pediatrics.

In a cross-sectional, population-based study of 900,000 children ages 2-19 years old, researchers found 78 cases of pediatric idiopathic intracranial hypertension. The condition occurred most frequently in overweight or obese, non-Hispanic white teenage girls ? 85 percent of the children with IIH were girls 11-19, nearly half were non-Hispanic white, and 73 percent were overweight or obese.

Importantly, the study also found a strong association between IIH and increasing weight class: extremely obese adolescents were 16 times more likely than normal weight children to have IIH; moderately obese children, 6 times more likely; and overweight children, 3.5 times more likely.

?Childhood obesity has again been shown to be associated with a serious disease,? said study lead author Sonu M. Brara, MD, of the Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center Neurology Department. ?This research is the strongest evidence to date that obesity is associated with IIH in children ? it also suggests that the childhood obesity epidemic is likely to lead to increased morbidity from IIH, including blindness.?

This study adds to the growing evidence base about data on the prevalence of obesity and prevention of it among children. Earlier this month the Institute of Medicine released its Accelerating Progress in Obesity Prevention offering recommendations, strategies, and action steps for stakeholders and sectors to accelerate progress in preventing obesity.

In adults, IIH is a relatively rare disorder that predominately affects overweight or obese women ages 20 to 44 with an incidence rate of 15 per 100,000 individuals. The disorder is characterized by increased pressure around the brain in the absence of other diseases, with symptoms including headache, blurred vision, nausea, and eye movement abnormalities. The ailment can lead to blindness in up to 10 percent of patients, particularly when not recognized and treated promptly.

The children and adolescents in the study were enrolled in the Kaiser Permanente Southern California integrated health plan from 2007 to 2009. The study included measured height and weight and diagnosis of IIH.

?Our findings may help improve the early diagnosis and treatment of IIH in young patients,? said Dr. Brara. ?Overweight and obese children appear to have more IIH symptoms at onset than normal weight children. We suggest that clinicians carefully screen adolescents who are overweight or obese and present with symptoms of IIH, such as headache, blurred vision, and eye movement abnormalities.?

According to recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations, extreme obesity is defined as more than 1.2 times the 95th percentile, or a body mass index of more than 35 kilograms/meter squared. Obesity is defined as more than the 95th percentile or a BMI of more than 30 kg/m2. Overweight is defined as more than the 85th percentile or a BMI of more than 25 kg/m2. Body mass index is a reliable indicator of body fatness and calculated based on height and weight. For children, BMI percentiles are the most commonly used indicator to assess the size and growth patterns of individual children. The percentile indicates the relative position of the child?s BMI number among children of the same sex and age.

This study was funded by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. It is part of the Kaiser Permanente Southern California Children?s Health Study and its ongoing work to identify and treat childhood obesity through research and community programs.

Researchers at Kaiser Permanente announced in February study findings that the prevalence of asthma among children and adolescents who are overweight or obese varies widely by race and ethnicity. The study also found that the association between childhood asthma and increasing BMI is strongest in Hispanics and weakest in African Americans.

In 2011 Kaiser Permanente announced a study that used electronic health records of more than 700,000 patients to determine that children who are overweight or obese have a significantly higher prevalence of psoriasis, a chronic inflammatory disease of the skin.

Other study authors included Corinna Koebnick, PhD, of the Kaiser Permanente Department of Research and Evaluation, Kaiser Permanente Southern California; Amy H Porter, MD, of the Kaiser Permanente Baldwin Park Medical Center; and Annette Langer-Gould, MD, PhD, of the Department of Research and Evaluation, Kaiser Permanente Southern California and Southern California Permanente Medical Group, Los Angeles Medical Center, Neurology Department.

Home Improvement Projects You Should do Before You Sell Your ...

Before you even put your home on the market, you can raise the value and if you do the right home improvement projects, you will most likely find someone to buy it. It is important to be real when taking a look at your home and recognizing what really needs to be replaced, repaired or just tidied up. When determining which projects are worthwhile (large and small), the following guidelines are should be taken into consideration.

One of the very first things you need to do when your house is on the market is make sure that all of the most important systems and appliances are working properly. This includes things like the water heater, the heating and cooling system and the plumbing. You need to keep in mind that all potential buyers will have the house inspected and when major issues arise they will either rethink the sale or force you to lower your price. Appearances matter quite a lot too and if your boiler looks like it has just been sitting there forever and not kept up, the impression it makes will only be a bad one. This is also true for the refrigerator. Show potential buyers that you care enough about your home that you keep essential items up to date.

When you are getting ready to sell your home, nix the thought of going out and buying expensive items that you believe will add to the value of your home. In the end, you will usually not be able to find a way to rationalize the out-of-pocket expenses as these will not add enough additional value to your home. This takes in things like hot tubs and swimming pools because a lot of individuals consider them to be extra comfort items. The same rings true for high priced landscaping or features in your yard, like a Koi pond or fountain. It is fine if you already have some of these things in your home, although you do not want to rush out to buy them in hopes that they will help you sell your home. In budget conscious times of today, people will often feel that these features are driving up the cost of the home. Because of the exorbitant cost of maintaining extras, like spas, hot tubs and swimming pools, many prospective buyers just do not even want to put up with those things.

Home security is something that a lot of people are worried about. If your house doesn?t already have a security system, you should think about having one installed. This may include an alarm as well as security cameras. You?ll need to take that under consideration though. Depending on where you actually live, potential buyers might be impressed that your home comes with a high quality security system. On the other hand, it might do exactly the opposite and tell buyers that your neighborhood isn?t one they can feel safe in. The best approach here is one that is in the middle; put in a good security system but don?t stress its inclusion or stress it a lot when you want to show your house.

When selling your home, you should not rush into making every type of repair or improvement you can think of. You need to be vigilant when figuring out the upfront cost for increasing the value of your home and how much each project will actually make for you. Before you put your home on up For Sale, you can take some of the information we discussed in this article into account when consider which home improvement projects to pursue.

The Verdict Is In: Google Did NOT Infringe On Oracle?s Patents

android-happyJust over a week ago, the jury began deliberations on the ongoing patent infringement case between Google and Oracle. After waiting in the wings, with bated breath, the verdict is finally in, as Judge William Alsup of the U.S. District Court of Northern California dismissed the jury this afternoon after a unanimous decision that ruled in favor of Google's mobile OS -- declaring that Android did not in fact infringe on the Oracle patents in question. The decision follows an opposing verdict earlier this month, in which the jury in the long-running infringement case found that certain components of Android APIs had too close of a resemblance to code used in Oracle's Java programming tools. However, the jury ended up splitting on the notion of whether or not Google could in fact claim fair use in its defense (which could have then led to a mistrial.)

Following are comments by EU leaders and officials after the talks ended early on Thursday:

EU LEADERS' STATEMENT ON GREECE:

"We discussed the political and economic situation in Greece. We want Greece to remain in the euro area while respecting its commitments.

"We are fully aware of the significant efforts already made by the Greek citizens.

"The euro zone has shown considerable solidarity, having already disbursed together with the IMF nearly 150 billion euros in support of Greece since 2010. We will ensure that European structural funds and instruments are mobilized to bring Greece on a path towards growth and job creation.

"Continuing the vital reforms to restore debt sustainability, foster private investment and reinforce its institutions is the best guarantee for a more prosperous future in the euro area.

"We expect that after the elections, the new Greek Government will make that choice."

GERMAN CHANCELLOR ANGELA MERKEL

ON JOINT EURO BONDS:

"Various participants (at the meeting) made clear that the uniform interest rates with the introduction of the euro did not result in an improvement in the competitiveness of all countries."

"There were differences in the exchange about euro bonds."

ON GREECE:

"We want Greece to stay in the euro, but we insist that Greece sticks to commitments that it has agreed to."

EUROPEAN CENTRAL BANK PRESIDENT MARIO DRAGHI

ON JOINT EURO BONDS:

"Euro bonds make sense when you have a fiscal union, otherwise they don't make sense. They are the first step towards a fiscal union."

EUROPEAN COUNCIL PRESIDENT HERMAN VAN ROMPUY

ON JOINT EURO BONDS:

"It was briefly touched upon by several members of the European Council in different directions, but let me put it also very clearly, it was mentioned in the framework of deepening monetary and economic union. Nobody was asking for an immediate introduction. This would take time. It is the end of a process to consider what the legal implications of all this are, so we discussed it in this specific chapter of the longer term project of deepening the monetary and economic union."

"Euro bonds were discussed in the specific chapter of the long-term project of deepening the monetary and economic union."

ON BANK SUPERVISION AND RESOLUTION:

"These ideas on stronger, stricter banking supervision and resolution were only mentioned, we did not have a real discussion on it, but we will work on them in the upcoming weeks."

ON GREECE IN EURO ZONE:

"We want Greece to remain in the euro area, while respecting its commitments. We are fully aware of the significant efforts already made by the Greek citizens and the euro zone has shown considerable solidarity having already disbursed, together with the IMF, 150 billion euros in support to Greece since 2010."

ON CONTINUED REFORMS IN GREECE:

"We expect that after the re-elections, the new Greek government will make that choice."

ON DEEPENING ECONOMIC UNION:

"We will report in June on the main building blocks and on a working method in order to achieve this objective."

ON INCREASING CAPITAL FOR EUROPEAN INVESTMENT BANK:

"The board of the European Investment Bank is invited to consider an increase of its capital for financing projects across the union."

SPANISH PRIME MINISTER MARIANO RAJOY

"I defended the need for control in public spending, that's to say that the public sector does not spend what it doesn't have, and I reaffirmed Spain's commitment to control the public deficit. I defended the need for reforms to have a more flexible and competitive economy."

"The most important thing at this time is to guarantee the sustainability of public debt in the countries of the European Union. I think that the European Union needs to take rapid reforms to control public deficits."

ON GREECE AND THE FUTURE OF THE EURO:

"I am very worried by the situation in Greece, I very much hope that Greece can stay in the euro, I think that would be very good for Greek citizens, even if they have to make an effort, but it is also good for the European Union as a whole.

"I think it is good that there is a very clear message that the euro is irreversible and a project we won't give up on. It's important that we prepare the future of the euro and what we want... for instance euro bonds that we discussed today.

"I made my priorities clear, which are the control of deficits, national reforms, European reforms, the sustainability of public debt and to start thinking about the future of the euro and the designs around it."

FRENCH PRESIDENT FRANCOIS HOLLANDE

ON ENCOURAGING GROWTH:

"We had an exchange of views.

"The idea is to put energy into the growth motor

"All the member countries don't necessarily share my ideas. But a certain number expressed themselves in the same direction."

"Today, what counts is giving a new dimension to growth."

"There were some proposals where there is already a consensus, namely project bonds, recapitalizing the EIB, on mobilizing EU structural funds, reorientating the budget, but I proposed that we go further. Notably on the idea that the European project should be more targeted to new technologies, in renewable energy and industrial projects."

ON SITUATION IN GREECE:

"What would happen if a new government formed after the Greek election refuses the memorandum and does not respect the goals? I think the euro zone's attitude would be to ask it to strictly respect its commitments."

"On Greece, a text was adopted on having Greece stay in the euro zone, provided that it respect its commitments."

"I am not aware of any simulation of a Greek exit from the euro and France is not working under that hypothesis."

"EU structural funds should be used to help restore Greek growth."

ON USING JOINT EURO BONDS:

"I was not alone in defending euro bonds."

"For now, Germany's line of thinking is that euro bonds, if I give the most optimistic version, could only be an end point, whereas for us they are a starting point. It's true that there is there a difference.

"I respect Mrs Merkel's point of view when she says euro bonds are not an instrument of growth in themselves. So the discussions will continue. There was not a conflict or a confrontation. Everybody gave their opinion and there were others that were much more strongly against (euro bonds) than Mrs Merkel."

Following are earlier comments ahead of the talks:

DUTCH PRIME MINISTER MARK RUTTE

ON JOINT EURO BONDS:

"Euro bonds (are) not something we are in favor of, they would increase our borrowing costs."

ON GROWTH AND AUSTERITY:

"We are talking about growth and we've put ideas forward, but you can't slacken your budgetary efforts because people will lose trust."

SWEDISH PRIME MINISTER FREDRIK REINFELDT

ON EURO ZONE ECONOMY:

"The euro zone is moving in the right direction. You can actually see the former huge deficits now shrinking, even though it needs to go further."

ON EURO ZONE BONDS:

"I am very skeptical about euro bonds, because I think it is wrong, (at) both ends. It creates an atmosphere where the good behavior (is) punished and the ones that should do more will get some relief."

FINNISH PRIME MINISTER JYRKI KATAINEN

ON EURO ZONE BONDS:

"I don't support euro bonds.

"Too many countries have got too many loans for too low a price for too long.

"Euro bonds would institutionalize this problem and that's why we are not interested.

"Everybody understands euro bonds (would) take a long time to launch."

ON GROWTH AND AUSTERITY:

"Growth has been on the agenda for years.

"I think that we should talk about growsterity, which means austerity measures to really change confidence and at the same time to have measures to strengthen growth.

"For instance, lowering some taxes and doing some structural reforms, especially in the labor market."

BELGIAN PRIME MINISTER ELIO DI RUPO

ON A STRATEGY OF GROWTH:

"Ever since I came to the European summit in December, I have been asking for a strategy of growth and stimulus. Today a number of countries support this idea, in particular France and in particular President (Francois) Hollande."

"We can do something for businesses. The financial transactions tax, euro zone bonds, euro-projects - we have to give hope back to people. I would say that in the conditions today, it would be appropriate to have a strategy of growth and stimulus.

"We can't consider any more that the European Union stays just in the dimension of austerity. In Belgium, we want to be rigorous with the budget, but we also need a stimulus program."

GERMAN CHANCELLOR ANGELA MERKEL

ON STEPS TO ACHIEVE GROWTH:

"(Today) it's about having an exchange about how we prepare for the summit at the end of June and complete what we have discussed at previous summits, namely to work out growth perspectives for the European Union and the euro zone.

"For us, it's about deepening the internal market. I will propose that the mobility of labor market be improved. In some countries workers are sought, in other countries there is high unemployment, particularly for young people.

"Secondly, it's about structural reform. It's about closer cooperation in the euro zone regarding the social welfare system, labor market rules.

"Thirdly it's about strengthening the role of the European Investment Bank."

"Nothing will be decided today. It's an exchange of opinions and then a final agenda at the end of June."

ON JOINT EURO ZONE BONDS:

"I do not think they would be a contribution to promoting growth in the euro zone as the very similar interest rates that we had for many years led to serious, misjudged developments."

BRITISH PRIME MINISTER DAVID CAMERON

ON SITUATION IN GREECE AND WIDER EURO ZONE:

"Of course this is an important meeting for Britain because what happens in the euro zone affects our country and of course we need a decisive plan for Greece and a decisive plan to get the European economies moving.

"But if we are not going to keep coming back and back to meetings like this, we also need to deal with some of the longer term issues at the heart of a successful single currency, having a bank that gets behind that single currency, having coherent long term plans to make sure that single currency is coherent.

"We have to address those issues too or these crises will keep occurring."

FRENCH PRESIDENT FRANCOIS HOLLANDE

ON ENCOURAGING GROWTH:

"We have growth propositions on the table. There are many."

"No proposition should be ruled out in principle."

"We are putting on the table for this council what we think could improve the level of growth.

"Today the growth forecasts for 2012 are extremely negative...

"For 2013 the forecasts are pessimistic so we have an obligation to lift very quickly the growth rate.

"We haven't come together to confront each other... but we have to say what we think - what are the right instruments, the right methods, the right steps, the right initiatives to raise growth?

"At the end of June we will take decisions, but for the moment, I think it's decisive that we say what we are thinking."

ON SITUATION IN GREECE:

"Greece must make an important decision on June 17 and this choice could be European.

"France wants the Greeks to remain in the euro zone and the Greeks must respect the engagements which have been made, but at the same time the euro zone must show that it is willing to support Greece."

IRISH PRIME MINISTER ENDA KENNY

ON JOINT EURO ZONE BONDS:

"Euro bonds are one of a range of opportunities for discussion here. Clearly, euro bonds is an issue that will be on the table. I think it is fair that we should explore what that actually means."

ON USING THE EURO ZONE'S ESM BAILOUT FUND TO HELP BANKS:

"Obviously this would be of interest in Ireland. Clearly an issue like that would be in Ireland's interest and one we would be exceptionally interested in."

ON SITUATION IN GREECE:

"Clearly this is a matter of quite considerable concern in the European Union and the euro zone. There is a very strong willingness within the Greek population to stay in the euro."

ON A FISCAL UNION:

"This is an issue where Europe is now squaring up to the realization that good budgetary rules and fiscal discipline are important, but they are only part of the full picture and you need a strong growth agenda."

BELGIAN FINANCE MINISTER STEVEN VANACKERE

ON POSSIBILITY OF GREECE LEAVING EURO ZONE:

"All the contingency plans (for Greece) come back to the same thing: to be responsible as a government is to foresee even what you hope to avoid.

"We must insist on efforts to avoid an exit scenario but that doesn't mean we are not preparing for eventualities. I believe many countries have their contingency plans for the things they want to avoid at all cost, like terrorist attacks, and to say that we don't have a contingency plan would be irresponsible."

Sydney Home ? Alexia Gnecchi Ruscone and Family ? The Design ...

The Paddington apartment of Alexia Gnecchi Ruscone ? all photographs by Felix Forest, styling / production by Lucy Feagins.

Treasured antiques and eclectic finds on the mantlepiece ? cute monkey in the palm tree!

Living room

Today?s eclectic Sydney apartment is another that seems to have a truly international flair. No surprise, really, as designer Alexia Gnecchi Ruscone and her family are in equal parts Italian / Australian, and have spent a good deal of time living in Europe before settling here. After returning to Sydney from Milan in 2003, they spent time living in Double Bay and Avalon before moving to their current terrace apartment in Paddington. ?They?ve been here now for three years.

Alexia lives here with husband Paolo, and grown-up kids Tania (21) and Vittorio (18), plus a string of nieces and nephews that love to come to visit Australia! ?The whole family is incredibly creative ? Alexia is the founder and key designer behind classic fashion accessories label?Eclettica, with two stand alone stores in Sydney and stockists Australia-wide, whilst Paolo runs super popular vintage furniture store?Junktique in Glebe. ?Their daughter Tania has also recently launched her very own design business -?TDesign ?whilst Vittorio is in his first year of industrial design! ?That?s one seriously impressive collective skill set ? all under one roof!

In true European style,?Alexia and Paolo have adorned every inch of their home in amazing artwork, antiques and collectables. Gallery-style hanging systems were installed early on to allow for Paolo?s growing collection of paintings and artwork. ?Alexia says everything in the house has a sentimental value ? ?our collection tells our story, individually through our family pieces and together through our travels?.

Alexia?s most treasured aspect of this home is it?s cosy-ness ? ?we love coming home and throwing our shoes off!? she says. ?Of course after many years living in Milan, Alexia also adores the sunshine, blue skies, harbour and beaches of Sydney, and in particular the central location of this apartment in Paddington. ?It?s a great spot ? walking distance to fab cafes, book shops and cinema; once I get home from work I really don?t need to drive? she says.

Big thanks to the Gnecchi Ruscone family for sharing their beautiful home with us today! ?I feel it?s only fitting to sign off in Alexia?s signature style ? ?Ciao, Ciao, Tanti Baci !? xx

How Can I Get A Decrease Boat Insurance Policies Fee?

A bimini prime can set you again a excellent $500 to a few of thousand, dependent upon the dimension of your boat and the protection and good quality of the major. You might possibly have upgraded the seats or have added Tilt & Trim. All of those equipment can add to the total premium of your boat insurance coverage policy.

Most boat insurance coverage coverage may even cover theft of the boat and will presumably or couldn?t cowl the trailer. When you retain your boat in a slip and really haven?t got a trailer to insure and usually are not transporting it to area lakes, then your coverage might expense you significantly significantly less.

You additionally need to maintain in mind that sea-faring boats are going to cost way more to insure as they are much more at danger from unpredictable climate situations and wave hurt. Lake-heading boats are usually not thought to be to be at this kind of danger. Restored vintage boats can even fetch a considerable premium, as will private watercraft because of the hazardous nature of the craft and the incidents of accidents and loss of life as a consequence of non-public watercraft usage.

Essentially, every particular person policy will differ, because it does for your auto. Test initially along with your auto organization. A boat may qualify you for a multi-motorcar low value, but far more than probably your car insurance coverage business will supply boat insurance coverage by the use of a spouse that will not make it easy for you to declare that price reduction. Most states do not demand evidence of insurance policy in buy to signal-up your boat, but it?s significantly significantly better to be safe than sorry. Accidents do materialize?even to you.

Pay less than $20/month for Accident Insurance through insurance agency, wellnessplanusa.com, that will help pay for your deductible when you have an accident and are responsible for high out of pocket costs.

In the event you private a ship it could be one specific of the greatest purchases you?ve gotten ever earlier than produced, hence it should be adequately protected. If you personal a boat and have an incident then you may be accountable to fork out on your non-public repairs as correctly as any harm you might maybe do to every other boat. That is the explanation you will need to have boat insurance coverage coverage. Boat insurance coverage operates in a fairly related method to any motorized vehicle insurance coverage protection you could possibly have.

The priority of acquiring your boat vandalized or stolen is pretty prevalent in todays culture. In the event you wouldn?t have the suitable insurance coverage coverage safety that can bring about you an excessive amount of unneeded grief and this is the reason to have an incredible coverage with enough coverage. Insurance coverage coverage in your boat may well not be low-cost, but should you personal a boat you should issue the expense of insurance policies into your month-to-month boat cost.

To search out wonderful insurance coverage coverage I recommend that you simply get the job finished with an agent that you depend on and that is additionally acquainted in producing protection for a boat. In the event you shouldn?t have an agent you possibly can glimpse on the Web however be mindful and do not decide the very first protection that you simply obtain. Get various quotations on costs and look at quite meticulously the deductions and exclusions. Do not forget that probably the most inexpensive coverage you come across shouldn?t be usually heading to be your perfect choice merely since you need the suitable protection.

Structured Settlements - Get Financial Freedom Tips

Marriage is the dream many wait for, but when it ends it becomes a nightmare. Non-qualified structured settlements can help in stopping the nightmares and can be of useful potential during divorce proceedings. Furthermore, there are several advantages to using structured settlement annuities to resolve financial issues you may experience in a divorce.

Non-qualified structured settlement payment, also known as non-qualified assignments, can provide assurance to the spouse receiving child support obligations, alimony, or periodic payment equity allotments. The payments will be guaranteed to be received on time, which will reduce the time and cost of new court proceedings that may arise and need resolved. This could be extremely beneficial to the paying spouse who has an uncontrollably variable commission or bonus income or
lives in another state or country.

Also, with a non-qualified structured settlement, there is an opportunity to pay a certain amount of cash when you likely have it for the compensating spouse. This will solve the issue of being in a strenuous situation and all the problems attached if things change for you financially. This can be a savings of time ahead, expense, and administration.

Another reason structured settlement annuities can be a useful tool in reference to a divorce is because there may be the need for a spouse to have income for a time period or in lump sums for anticipated essentials. By having to rely on the promise of an ex-spouse having to pay who may become disabled, lose their job or business, or pass away is constrained by the typical plan of such payments. The paying spouse may not want a lien on assets or any other continued negative dealings on finances with the ex-spouse, including wasteful issues.

When applied to negotiating a property division, alimony, or paying child support in a divorce there are many advantages to why a structured settlement can be a useful tool. If negotiated and included in the settlement and divorce decree, the advantages of single or multiple income streams can be created to providing the following:

? Short term periodic payments
? Lifetime income
? College funds
